EDUCATION &
EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
My formal education includes a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in New York City where I studied family systems and family dynamics. My first year of practicum was at a palliative care hospital in the Bronx; my second year was at the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services in New York City.
WOrK EXpERIENCE
My work experience has been with The Hyde School from 2000-2016. There I was involved in helping hundreds of parents understand how to become exceptional parents, based on Hyde’s philosophy that “the parent is the primary teacher and the home is the primary classroom.”
Also at Hyde, I was director of a program called “Parenting: The Biggest Job We’ll Ever Have.” (www.biggestjob.com) As director of this program, I helped parents realize the potential of their family, their children and themselves. I delivered workshops to parents outside Hyde School , helping them understand the importance of becoming an exceptional parent in order to raise children with character.
PERSONAL EXpERIENCE
I am proud of my education and the work I have done, but there is no comparison to the personal experience of being a parent: recognizing one’s mistakes (or having them pointed out to you!), getting off track, asking for help to get back on track, and learning how to let my children struggle in order to grow. As challenging as my journey as a parent has been, I would not trade one minute of it. It has made me a stronger person, partner and parenting teacher, and I am proud of the relationship I have with my two adult sons.
